Statement of Purpose in the Authorizing Ordinance
(Ordinance No. 15477 – March 18, 2003)

 

The Commission shall be composed of 19 citizens, who will study and advise the City Council on matters important to the community. 

 

Purpose of the Commission

The Commission shall act in an advisory capacity to the Fort Worth City Council and shall study women’s issues important to the community.
 

The Commission shall endeavor:

  • to develop a public consciousness of the talents of women, with special emphasis on the utilization of those talents as equal partners in the private, business, and civic community;
  • to encourage women to become actively involved in matters pertaining to the community;
  • to act as a source of information and education on issuesimportant to women; and
  • to seek to change policies and practices which prevent the full participation of women in today’s societywhen appropriate.

The Commission shall also seek to eliminate discrimination against women on the basis of race, age, religion, sexual preference, disability, national origin or marital status in all phases of Fort Worth society.
