Councilmember Carter Burdette

Carter Burdette

Carter Burdette was first elected to the Fort Worth City Council in May of 2005, and was re-elected to his post for an additional two years in May, 2007.

Mr. Burdette is a semi-retired attorney in private practice in Fort Worth, Texas.  He is of Counsel with Cantey Hanger, L.L.P., a general practice firm more than 100 years old.  He holds an A.B. degree from Amherst (1956), and a J.D. degree from Harvard Law School (1958). From 1958 to 1962, he was a corporate counsel with Champlin Oil & Refining Co., and from 1962 until 2003, he practiced with Cantey Hanger.  Mr. Burdette’s years of practice have been devoted primarily to oil and gas matters, civil litigation, employment law and civil rights matters.

Currently, Mr. Burdette is serving on several boards and committees for the City of Fort Worth, including the following:

  • Central City Local Government Corporation Board
  • Fort Worth Sports Authority, Inc. Board
  • Downtown TIF (3) Board – President
  • Audit & Finance Committee

  • Lonestar Local Government Corporation Board
  • Fort Worth Housing Finance Corporation
  • Tarrant Regional Water District Wholesale Advisory Board
  • Fort Worth Convention & Visitors Bureau Executive Board
  • Fort Worth Convention & Visitors Bureau Board of Directors
  • Regional Coordination Committee
  • Trinity River Bridges Advisory Committee
  • Seventh Street Bridge Steering Committee
  • North Central Texas Council of Governments Executive Board
  • Emergency Preparedness Planning Council (NCTCOG)

Mr. Burdette and his wife, Ellie, have been married 52 years and have five adult children and eight grandchildren.  He has served on a number of civic and charitable boards and committees, including Streams and Valleys, Trinity Valley School, the Fort Worth Exchange Club, and the Speedway Children’s Charities Board.
