Total Workforce As of January 1, 2009:

• There are 6,558 authorized full-time positions.
• There are approximately 6,707 total full-time positions (including grant-funded positions).
• There were 6,420 active employees as of January 1, 2009.
• The average City employee is 43 years old, with 10 years of service.
• There are 9 employees per 1,000 citizens.
• Total citywide turnover (including retirements) for calendar year 2008 was 8.23%.
• Total citywide turnover (without retirements) for calendar year 2008 was 6.16%.
• There is one African-American Assistant City Manager and five African-American Department Heads.
• There is one Hispanic Assistant City Manager and three Hispanic Department Heads.
• There is one female Assistant City Managers and six female Department Heads.
• Women make up 29.7% of the total city workforce.

• The average actual pay for a Civilian employee including longevity, overtime, etc., is $48,132.

• Average base pay for Civil Service Police is $64,374.
