Lancaster Corridor Initiatives Fort Worth Convention Center Expansion In an effort to turn the Fort Worth Convention Center into a more attractive and modernized convention destination, the City of Fort Worth spent $75 million for renovation and expansion of the structure. With all phases of construction completed, the Center boasts a 30,000 square-foot ballroom, 252,000 square feet of exhibit space, 41 breakout rooms and an outside events plaza. Phase I of the construction cost $44 million and began in 2000 with the demolition of the John F. Kennedy Theatre. The Theatre was replaced with the ballroom, 56,000 square feet of expanded exhibit hall space and 12,500 square feet of meeting room space. Phase II of Convention Center upgrades actually began in December 2001, four months prior to the completion of the Phase I. The final stage of the transformation cost approximately $31 million and added 25,000 square feet of exhibit space, 25,800 feet of meeting space and update the existing 100,000 square feet of exhibit space.
