Lancaster Avenue Redesign

Plans are underway to design an “urban street” along Lancaster Avenue that will provide for mobility and be sensitive to existing historic buildings and future development along this street. The design includes a four lane street cross section with on-street parking. Traffic signals will be located at major intersections. The design will also provide better access between Lancaster Avenue and Fort Worth’s central business district and medical district.

Development along the Lancaster Avenue corridor would be mixed-use including residential, retail, office and parks/open space. A shade canopy of street trees can create a rhythm along the Avenue, and historic lighting and benches are recommended to create an attractive and pedestrian-friendly street.  Sidewalk cafes and outdoor eating, ground-level entrances, and public art can encourage vibrant street activity along the corridor. Monumental gateways to the corridor should mark the east and west entrances.
