The Big Tree Registry for Fort Worth
The big tree Registry is a way to recognize and honor large trees
and their owners throughout our community. A Big Tree, or champion
tree registry is a list of the largest tree of each species for a
particular region. The Texas Forest Service
in cooperation with American Forests keeps a register of the
Big
Trees of Texas.
Champion Trees of the Metroplex is a registry of
Big Trees in the 10 counties surrounding the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
The Fort Worth Big Tree Registry is only for trees inside the
city limits of Fort Worth. To nominate the Big Tree in your community,
print out and complete the Nomination
Form and mail to:
Forestry Section, Parks and Community Services
Big Tree Registry for Fort Worth
4200 South Freeway, Suite 2200
Fort Worth, Texas 76115
The owner and the nominee will receive an award suitable for framing. A
photo of the Big Tree will hang at the Parks and Community Services office
at Town Center and be posted on the Forestry Section's Big Tree Registry for
Fort Worth web page. If the tree is of sufficient size to dethrone a
Metroplex Champion or a Texas Big Tree, the City Foresters will forward the
nomination to the appropriate office.

Certain
trees are shown with both an "Official"
and an "Actual"
set of measurements. This
reflects multi-trunk trees (trunks that fork below 4.5' above the
ground).
The official measurement rules only allow measuring the Main
Stem or Trunk. The
actual measurements
more truly reflect the total tree size as all trunks are measured
OR the one main trunk is measured below the first fork in the
tree.
