Forestry has many
volunteer opportunities
available through our programming. You and/or your group can choose
to be a volunteer for a day through Volunteer Forester; be a
volunteer for a semester through Vocational Forester; or be a
volunteer for a lifetime through Citizen Forester.
cable programs
Forestry collaborates with the
City Cable Office
to produce several educational programs.
Cowtown Adventures is
a fun, educational program that is geared towards elementary
students, with an emphasis on science and how science applies to
city departments and services.
A Walk in the Park is a
program about what the City of Fort Worth Parks & Community Services
Department has been up to lately. Episodes feature Forestry's
Neighborhood Tree Planting Program & the Rolling Hills Tree Farm &
its rainwater harvesting system. Find out why the City wants to
provide FREE trees for your neighborhood & how you can get them!
tours
Your group can tour
Rolling Hills Tree Farm &
volunteer. Tours are arranged as schedules allow, on a
flexible basis. The tours are provided for groups that agree
to volunteer a minimum of 2 additional hours at the tree farm after
the tour. Tours include learning about nursery operations,
heavy equipment, harvesting methods, greenhouse operations,
rainwater harvesting, &
natural resources restoration projects on site. Volunteer work
might include planting seedlings, potting trees, planting trees in
the fields, watering, weeding, organizing, inventorying, & planting
trees or removing invasive trees & shrubs in our creek restoration
area.
Other tour possibilities include a forestry walk at a park.

presentations
Forestry staff is occasionally
available to give public presentations to neighborhood groups,
garden clubs, university classes, & various other groups - as
schedules allow. Topics might include: benefits of trees, how
to identify tree hazards, tree species selection, Cross Timbers
ecosystem, proper pruning techniques, native & non-native tree
species of the area, trees' role in our municipal infrastructure,
City of Fort Worth tree planting programs, services provided by the
Forestry Section, rainwater harvesting, Look Up, Don't Lose a
Limb!, volunteer opportunities, & many other topics.

Forestry staff also
occasionally attend career days at local schools, & staff may be
available to take students on a forestry walk through a local park
near the school.
