forestry services
we don't just prune trees

hazardous trees
tree work   The Forestry Section is dedicated to keeping you safe.  This includes inspection, removal of dead or hazardous trees, removal of hazardous limbs & trimming for traffic hazards & clearance.  Click here to find out more about how to report a problem with a city tree.

free trees

free trees   Trees provide many benefits including, but not limited to:

1) cooling our city
2) reducing ozone & air pollution
3) providing oxygen

The Forestry Section encourages tree planting on public property through two programs:  Neighborhood Tree Planting Program, which provides free five-gallon street trees; and t
he Tree Grant Program, which provides 3-inch caliper, balled and burlapped (B&B) trees for planting on public property within the City of Fort Worth.

Breathe easy...we've got you covered!

construction

street trees & construction inspection The Forestry Section consults with other city departments upon request on how to preserve trees during city construction projects.

replacement street trees If you have lost your street tree from storm damage, street construction, or just old age within the past year, you may be eligible for a replacement tree.  Call Forestry at 817.871.5738 for more information.

permits
permits  A Forester can issue a permit to a property owner to plant, trim, or remove a tree in the parkway (area between the sidewalk & the curb) at their own expense.

The Tree Preservation Ordinance is administered by the Urban Forestry Compliance Section. Visit their website to learn about the ordinance, apply for a permit, download an application, checklist & tree plan.

For more information, please call the Urban Forestry Compliance Section at 817.392.7933.

outreach programming
volunteer No matter your level of expertise, we have a volunteer program to meet your needs!  Whether you're interested in volunteering for a day or you would like to commit to a long-term volunteer position, Forestry has the program for you!

rolling hills tree farm Forestry manages a 71 acre tree farm where trees are grown from seed for our tree planting programs.  Forestry has also established a 10,000 gallon rainwater harvesting system & is currently working on a prairie restoration project on site.

special events To promote a strong stewardship of Fort Worth's urban forest that benefits all her citizens, Forestry coordinates or is a major contributor to many special events including Arbor Day, North Texas Urban Forestry Conference, Cowtown Brush-Up, Clean Air Fair, Cowtown Community Clean-Up & many other events.

presentations When scheduling allows, Forestry provides presentations on various topics concerning our urban forest.  Forestry is also involved in creating special cable programming such as Cowtown Adventures & A Walk in the Park

natural resources
natural resources  Our urban forest consists of more than street & park trees.  The Forestry seeks to assist in the management of the City's other natural resources such as grasslands & woodlands.  Learn about some of the projects in which Forestry is currently involved.

mulch
free mulch  The Forestry Section strives to recycle all removed plant materials.  Small wood debris is chipped.  Heavy Equipment, another Section of Parks and Community Services, mulches the wood chips.  They offer free mulch and compost to the citizens of Fort Worth.
