Berry/Riverside Village

The Berry/Riverside village is nestled below the historic Rolling Hills neighborhood at the intersection of Berry Street and Riverside Drive in southeast Fort Worth in Council District 8.  This village is envisioned as a bustling and vibrant mixed-use urban center that includes a full-service supermarket, national and local restaurants, and family entertainment.

Developer Vertex Asset Partners, L.P. has acquired over 80 acres at the intersection of Berry Street and Riverside Drive to develop over 232 single-family homes in the proposed Sierra Vista project, and to redevelop 32 acres that includes the site of the former Oak Brook mall to new neighborhood serving retail.  In addition, Vertex Asset Partners plans to donate land to the Fort Worth Transportation Authority (The T) to build a transit plaza.  The proposed Sierra Vista Transit Plaza will be partially funded by a $400,000 grant from the North Center Texas Council of Governments, Sustainable Development program and will include pedestrian and bike trails that link to nearby residential and commercial areas.

This village also was recently awarded a $823,571 grant to undertake community driven planning activities that will focus on appropriate boundaries for the urban village and design standards for future residential and commercial development.  In addition the grant will fund one or more public improvements to be determined.

The advocacy and professional organizations that promote business development and investment in this village include the Glencrest Civic League and Southeast Fort Worth, Inc.

Major Accomplishments:

  • NEZ designation
  • Tax Increment Financing (TIF) District designation, which will fund public infrastructure improvements along the East Berry Street Corridor including water, sewer, drainage, roads and sidewalks associated with mixed-use development.
  • Proposed new residential development, Sierra Vista, will include 232 single-family affordable homes built by History Maker Homes.
